Many people based their happiness on different things. For some, having a lot of money may bring some joy or instant-gratification. However, to sustain long-term satisfaction and pleasure, one must take steps towards innovating new practices into their life. Happiness is not dependent on others, although others can make a person experience moments of joy. To live a more joyful life, people should know how to create their source of happiness.

Some people try to obtain joy through living a fantasy. In such cases, one may adopt the lifestyle of someone else in hopes they will also feel the same contentment as that person. However, each person is different and must find methods to facilitate their joy. Luckily, there are several tips as follows which can increase the satisfaction within one’s life:

Don’t Internalize Poor Treatment
Everyone receives poor treatment in their life. Mistreatment can translate into abuse, toxic communication, degradation, slander, etc. While one can not control how others act or what they say, people can control how they respond. Instead of wanting to react, a person should remember to take a moment to respond to the situation in a healthy manner. If needed, one can take time to themselves or remove toxic people from their lives. People like this tend to bring others down emotionally and mentally. It’s essential not to receive such treatment personally. Instead of seeing it as a personal attack and internalizing this treatment, one should understand that that person isn’t in a healthy mental state. Thus, they are likely projecting their anger. By not claiming that behavior, one can maintain their joy.

Take Initiative
People can live a more joyful life by taking action. By taking the initiative, there is little stagnation left. When a person is idle for too long, this can lead to frustration, anxiety, depression, etc. Being too dormant and inactive means that negative thoughts can ruminate in one’s head. To counter this, a person should see to it that their days are full of fun activities and fulfillment.

Growth Mindset
Having a growth mindset allows a person to live a more joyful life. A person with a fixed mindset believes that specific skills are innate. A fixed mindset can discourage one from pursuing their dreams. For example, perhaps someone dreams of being a basketball player. However, they believe that their skills are not adequate to play basketball professionally. A person with a fixed mindset might accept this current realization. Yet, someone with a growth mindset will know that those skills can be developed and even perfected. Thus, one can take a more optimistic approach to the circumstances in their life so that they achieve more joy.

Don’t Hold Grudges
Keeping grudges is inviting toxicity into your life. Even if the other person was at fault, it’s critical to forgive and move on. Forgiveness doesn’t mean allowing that person to repeat that action. Forgiveness means accepting what happened and moving on. Once one stops holding grudges, it’s like a weight is lifted off of their shoulders, allowing them to feel more joy.

Pursue Your Passions
One should make sure they are following their passions by engaging in relevant hobbies where they find happiness. For example, if a person loves to help others, they should volunteer more in their community. Taking these actions feed the soul and create immense joy.
