Step 1: Vacuum your Rug Regularly
To maintain the long life of your rugs and carpet, at least once a month, upside down flip it then vacuums the back of your piece. To clean the back portion, you can do vacuuming with the beater bar or rotating brush which will surely be going to push dirt trapped deep down toward the top surface.
Now, flip it right side up and vacuum the dirt properly. For the front of the wool rugs, you can only use suction, and for synthetic rugs, you can use the rotating brush or beater bar on the front as well as the back.
While cleaning your rugs and carpet, keep in mind that you do not vacuum tassels or fringe. They are delicate material, and easily ripped by the suction or tangled in the vacuum’s beater bar.
So, fluffing them by hand is the best option. For wool rugs, it is suggested that you should vacuum them only a few times a month. As vacuuming more can pull out the fibres easily.
Step 2: Rotate your Rug to Even Out Wear and Tear
There are some places in our home, where we use rugs and carpet on a daily basis due to which foot traffic patterns can form tracks on fibres and pattern of the rug. You can prevent this by rotating your carpet regularly, to avoid this formation.
Usually, in the living room, our furniture rests on a rug, to avoid uneven fading and impressions, you can consider moving units regularly. Also, you can turn your carpet every other month to even out wear.
Step 3: Roll Rugs for Moving and Storage
To prevent creases and folds from forming on the carpet or rug, you have to keep the roll as tight as possible. This also becomes easier to move and store the piece when it is rolled. If you are transporting the carpet for dry cleaning or steam cleaning you will need to roll the carpet tightly beforehand.
Step 4: Use Diluted White Vinegar to Restore Rug Shine and Colour
For this, you have to dilute the vinegar, 1 part to 3 parts of water, and blot slowly with a sponge in the direction of the rug pile. You have to dampen it merely, don’t soak the carpets and rug. Now, allow it to air dry for some time and avoid exposure to the sun because it can bleach colours.
Step 5: Sprinkle Borax on the Carpet to Remove Any Type of Insects
Shampooing and steam cleaning are ineffective at controlling or removing insect colonies. For this situation, the Borax is the suitable choice, as it naturally coats and degrades the exoskeletons of insects and destroys eggs and larvae.
You have to only sprinkle Borax on the rug or carpet, after that wait for approximately 20 minutes, and vacuum. Also, make sure that there are no pets near the carpet that could inhale the Borax, which is a mildly toxic irritant for them.
I hope these tips will help you to keep your rugs and carpets of your home full clean.
