Since lockdown has confined us within four walls due to the COVID-19 outbreak, we are finding it hard to deal with our frustration while sitting at home. Well, you might spend your time watching shows on Netflix or completing your daily office tasks from home. But these activities don’t provide a respite to the stress building up within you.

To break free from the melancholic schedule, you need to adopt certain measures to feel rejuvenated. Since you have all the family members in the house now, you can indulge yourself in family activities. You can spend time on creative things so that you can engage your brain in that task. Most importantly, you should have fun when you are working with your siblings or parents.

Listed below are a few innovative tasks that you can carry out. A few of them might seem cliched, but there is a surprise element awaiting you.

#1. Write Story Book Reviews

With children getting acclimatized to e-learning in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, you can reintroduce the essence of printed textbooks. You, along with your siblings and parents, can indulge in reading storybooks. Once you are done reading a story, write a book review and share it with others. You can even publish it online. In this way, everyone can enhance their knowledge of literature and hone their writing skills.

Moreover, if your siblings require assignment help, you can assist them with their tasks. Meanwhile, you also can take advice from your parents regarding any subject. Another noble initiative would be to volunteer yourselves to teach underprivileged children through video-conferencing (by getting yourself registered with any volunteer groups).

As it is wisely said,

Power is gained by sharing knowledge, not hoarding it.

#2. Collage Making

Recently, there was a trend on the social media platforms where everyone was sharing past and present photos. Why not take it one step ahead? Pull out all the old pictures you have and ask your family to do the same. Then create a ‘Family Collage’ with your past and present photos. There are various apps that you can download from the Google Play Store and the App Store to create a collage with a simple click.

You can apply the same logic for recreating old photos or showcasing a time-lapse of your house. When you collectively do something with your family, it boosts the bond you have. And share this happiness online, so that other people, inspired by this, can participate. Who knows! You might be the pioneer of a trend, and you might bring millions of people together to create a community amid this tough situation.

#3. Decorate the Walls in Your House

More than 3 million people have already fallen victims at the hands of COVID-19, resulting in the demise of over two lacs of people. To protect your family members, especially the elders, it is imperative that you stay at home. But do not worry. You won’t feel bored when you, along with your family, get involved in wall art. No, I’m not talking about painting here. Instead, you should focus on DIY objects and handicrafts.

There are several things you can consider here. You can paint and put it up on the walls of your house, to give it a vibrant tone. If you have photographs at your disposal, you can create a gallery wall. If you opt for a simple, cohesive frame, it would add personality to your rooms. Or, you can involve your family in wall hanging art, by creating miniature handicrafts. Once, you are done, share it on the social media platforms to create a trend amid COVID-19.

#4. Concoct a New Dish

You can engage the whole family by inviting them to the kitchen and setting them specific tasks to prepare a new dish. You can go for Continental, Mexican, Italian, British cuisines. First, set up your tablet or laptop at a corner of the kitchen. Search for a specific dish like Soupe a I’oignon, which is a mouth-watering French soup. Then look for a legitimate cooking tutorial or guideline online, and abide by it.

You can also search through YouTube to gather fantastic dish ideas and hone your culinary skills. In this regard, it is wise if you look at the recipes of multiple-Michelin star chef Gordon Ramsay, or other celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver or Wolfgang Puck. As you cook together with your family, you will enjoy the camaraderie of your brothers, sisters, wife, husband and parents. Especially when any one of you make a mistake!

#5. Plant New Trees or Decorate the House with Flowers

Are you ready to get your hands dirty in your backyard or windowsill? If yes, then you can venture into gardening along with your family amid the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m assuming that many of you have a small garden or three to four potted plants. But that is no reason to explore your creativity. You can implement planting and patio decoration ideas even on a sliver of green. If you want to boost the home’s curb appeal with bright blooms, you can go for flower-filled planters.

You can encourage the rest of your family to help you out as you build a habit+ form rectangular troughs  and fill it up with succulents. Or, you might grow two to three potted fruit trees in your balcony or verandah like fig trees or Calamondion orange. As you plant these trees, you will feel as if the whole house is being filled with fresh air.

If there is a will, there is always a way. If you want to stay positive, life will provide you with opportunities to stay happy, irrespective of what’s going on outside. This is a period when you can spend most of your time with your family and help others as much as you can, be it through financial support or counseling aid. And the one way to remain happy is to be engaged in a creative task, with your family.
