31 things to do before you ring in the New Year

Become the new you, before the New Year

  1. Get rid of something that doesn’t bring you joy
  2. Forgive someone
  3. Forgive yourself
  4. Update your resume (before you forget all the great things you’ve accomplished this year)
  5. Set up a date night with your significant other/plan a girls night out
  6. Pay down, or even better, pay off a credit card or other loan
  7. Pay yourself (add more money to your 401(k) or other savings plan)
  8. Finally repair that broken something in your home
  9. Reach out to an old friend and catch up
  10. Reach out to a family member and say hello
  11. Create space- maybe in your closet, under your bed, or your desk at work
  12. Send a thank you card to someone that helped you this year (mailman, hair dresser, doorman, babysitter)
  13. Better yet, send another thank you card (appreciation is important!)
  14. Read an extra book to your child (if you’re a parent and have young children)
  15. Pick up a book and read for yourself, instead of watching TV
  16. Do something that scares you
  17. Do something for you
  18. Give yourself some credit
  19. Volunteer your time (start a coat or suit drive for those less fortunate than you are)
  20. Get moving (and perhaps put that gym membership to good use)
  21. Celebrate (nothing in particular)
  22. Work harder than you did yesterday
  23. Challenge a societal norm
  24. Plan a vacation
  25. Say NO to something you would rather not attend, simply because you would prefer to have down time instead (and don’t feel guilty about it)
  26. Avoid social comparison
  27. Get more sleep
  28. Unplug from social media and technology for a day and spend time with someone who matters
  29. Live in the moment
  30. Let go of something that’s been bothering you
  31. Set your 2019 goals!

People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.
