3 Things You Should Do as Soon as You Get Engaged

Things You Should Do as Soon as You Get Engaged

You’ve probably been dreaming of this moment your entire life. You may even have plans in place in anticipation of your perfect day. But one thing you may not have planned for is the overwhelming anxiety that can come along with the preparation for the actual moment you whisper, “I do.”

Who will pay for what? What flavor of wedding cake will you have? Which friends will you ask to be your bridesmaids? Budgets, catering, and decisions can seem too much to bear if you don’t get a jumpstart right away. While there is a ton of planning to be done, taking care of these first three things can really take a load off.

Shop for Your Dress

The best place to start your planning is with the wedding dress. There are usually custom fittings and alterations that must be done that can take weeks, or even months, to prepare. It’s easiest to start searching at shops like Saved by the Dress which sells formal dresses online. You could also take a weekend trip to a resort that’s popular with weddings and take note of what the attendees are wearing. Taking a girls’ trip can be a fun way to incorporate dress-shopping into a long weekend getaway.

Keep an eye out for appealing colors and styles that compliment your taste. And if your bridesmaids happen to be looking around with you, this is a great time for their input. It might take some time to find exactly what you’re looking for, so try many different options and get opinions from those you trust.

Find the Perfect Ring

It’s quite possible that your fiancé already picked out the perfect engagement ring, but more than likely both wedding rings to be used in the ceremony still need to be purchased. Most couples prefer their wedding bands to match, and some even prefer to have their rings custom designed to complement their own unique styles. But choosing a wedding ring is not always an easy feat. There is a lot of psychology that goes into the choice and customs of the ring. Shopping for wedding rings or engagement rings in Brisbane can be a fun and beautiful experience a couple can do together.

Set a Date

This is probably the most important detail to plan in the early stages, but it’s not always as simple as pointing to a date on the calendar. Depending on what type of wedding you wish to have, there may be long waiting lists for your chosen venue. If you’re not 100 percent sure on the spot, there are still other things to consider, such as when the wedding party will be available and how much time you will need to take off from work. Also, if you choose a popular venue, you might want to consider a winter wedding. Summer is still the most popular season for weddings, with fall coming in a close second. Pick your date wisely, but try to be flexible until you get the specifics pinned down.

Don’t let the stress from wedding planning take away from the sheer bliss you should be feeling as a bride-to-be. Get a head start on a few details and spread them over the course of your engagement. Make every stage a fun one and enlist the help of the people around you. After all, the more invested they feel, the more likely they will be to make sure things go as smoothly for you as possible.
