Do you want to make a bigger impact in this world while still having the time to focus on what’s important?

A few years ago, I asked myself this question – a lot. From the outside, I had the perfect life. I was running multiple businesses, I had three awesome kids, an amazing husband, a big house with two new cars in the driveway. We took lots of vacations and my retirement income looked pretty good. On the outside, I had it all. But on the inside, I felt like I needed more. It wasn’t about more money or more power or even more stuff. It was about me making a bigger difference in this world in a much bigger way but I didn’t really know what that meant. So, I went on this amazing journey to slow down and figure out what I was meant to do.

When I say slow down, I mean I went from 100 miles per hour to one mile per hour. I gave myself room to think and I only did things that made me happy. I had lots of coffee with friends. Turns out a lot of people (me included) don’t actually like coffee. We drink tea or water but we say we are going for coffee. These coffee dates gave me a chance to really listen and hear the challenges my peers were facing. And you know what they all said?

They said they wanted to make a bigger impact in this world and still have time to focus on what’s important to them. But that begged an even bigger question – what was important to them? I started asking my friends that and most of them didn’t know. I challenged them to think of their eulogy being read at their funeral. There were so many tears not because they had to own up to their own death. They were actually okay with that. They cried because they realized there was a gap between how they were living and how they wanted to live.

What was standing in their own way? The answer was simple. Themselves. They feared their own success. They feared repeating any past failures. They felt unworthy of what they wanted. They felt like they weren’t good enough. Most importantly, they didn’t have a clue how to make it happen.

All of that was standing in the way of some incredible dreams. Dreams the world needed to happen. It became abundantly clear that my friends couldn’t settle anymore. I couldn’t let them. But how could I convince them?

I am a strong believer in the power of collaboration so I invited 22 successful high-caliber people that were already living like there was no tomorrow to have a conversation with me. 22 people that I admired and respected but didn’t even know I existed. And they said yes! So, we recorded our conversations and made it into an interview series. We talked about things like:

*Fear is just an emotion that will hold you back if you let it. How can you own your fears and move forward?

*It’s easy to confuse being busy with being productive. There’s a big difference. It starts with understanding what’s important to you. How do you do that?

*However much time you spend by yourself just thinking each day is not enough. Double it, triple it – it doesn’t matter. No one spends enough time just thinking yet it’s the single biggest thing you can do to make yourself a better leader/spouse/parent/friend/person. How do you create time to just think?

Starting Dec. 10, 2018 the interview series begins and I’m inviting anyone to watch this series that wants to understand their purpose, how to create the time in their work and life to live it and how to actually make it happen.
