I write the blog Stumbling Beauty, which is inspired by my life. In 2005, my daughter became paralyzed due to a surgical mistake that occurred during a "routine brain surgery". This medical mishap led to a long road of therapies, more surgeries, and a hemispherectomy—a procedure that would remove half of my daughter's brain to stop debilitating seizures. When the dust cleared, we had to examine what our "new normal" meant. In the process, we discovered that life is a series of lessons learned, about love, life, and the unshakeable bond of family.
“People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.”
