Dr. John Macoviak is a member of the medical community who performed the first-ever heart transplant in Washington, D.C. and the 30 heart transplant procedures that followed. Dr. Macoviak performed the first ever heart-pancreas transplant alongside two expert pancreatic surgeons. The procedure was well ahead of its time. The heart functioned normally post-transplant.
