Dana Kaplan has her MA in Early Childhood Education with additional certifications in Gifted Education, Social and Emotional Learning, and Mindfulness. Dana taught in both the Atlanta Public School System and NYCDOE for a combination of 15 years. While teaching with the APS, Dana pioneered specialized programs for children displaced during Katrina. After moving to NYC in 2006 and teaching with PS 33, Chelsea Prep, for three years, Dana independently created, piloted, and launched one of the most coveted Gifted and Talented Program within the NYCDOE.
Dana believes curiosity and exposure are two critical ingredients that support social and emotional learning for all. Applying her extensive training in trauma, Social Emotional Learning, and positive communication, Dana has launched her personal business, Developing Empathetic Education with Dana (DEED), that focuses on cultivating safe environments for learners. Dana’s self-designed curriculum is used when partnering with schools, businesses, and parents as well as when directly working with children in small groups and 1:1. When not working, Dana can be found volunteering at MSBI Pediatric Emergency Department and Observation Unit. Dana created and spear-headed MSBI’s annual Making Dreams Come True book drive in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday. For more about Dana, please explore her website.

“People look for retreats for themselves, in the country, by the coast, or in the hills . . . There is nowhere that a person can find a more peaceful and trouble-free retreat than in his own mind. . . . So constantly give yourself this retreat, and renew yourself.”
