Brendan Hammer is a Chicago-area matrimonial and family law attorney. A Partner at one the nation's largest and most highly regarded boutique family law firms, Brendan litigates on behalf of a wide variety of individuals, from executives, entrepreneurs and medical, legal and creative professionals to political figures, professional athletes and their spouses. Brendan also publishes and presents frequently on a variety of legal topics including: trial advocacy, cross examination and evidence.
Brendan and his ex-wife, Vanessa (also a divorce lawyer), coparent their eight year old son and jointly blog together regarding divorce, coparenting and related issues at Exes and Allies.
Brendan is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Texas (currently inactive status in Texas) and serves on the Advisory Board of the DePaul University College of Law/Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP Family Law Center and is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
In 2017, Brendan was selected by Crain's Chicago Business as one of Chicago's "Most Influential Minority Lawyers." Brendan was previously selected by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin for their annual "40 Attorneys Under 40 to Watch" after only five years in practice.
Brendan is also a member of the Lyric Young Professionals of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, a member of the Overture Council of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Auxiliary Board of the Chicago Architecture Foundation and the Auxiliary Board of Hephzibah Children’s Association.
Brendan’s interests include meditation, yoga and wellness - and he is currently working on a number of projects to expand meditation and wellness resources for divorcing spouses and their children in the Chicago area.
